To those who don't understand the video:

This video tells of a girl's life in a world of debris and lost hope, where every survivor is left for themselves; to live or die. The girl never settles down, as that is too dangerous to even consider. She constantly moves from place to place, finding food, work, and so on.

She eventually finds friends who travel with her on the train, leading them to the two elderly men. They form a kind of family, and live together for a short time. She meets one boy, however, that seemed to stand out. Little did she know that this boy not only liked her, but he also loved another. Shocked and angry at this, the girl leaves the group behind. Eventually, the group disbanded, starting with the death of the oldest member, causing much grief to his friend/family member.

The girl now travels alone, wishing she had never met the boy who should've "got away".

How does the video share meaning with the song? The boy obviously misled her into believing that he loved her, either on purpose or subconsciously. She willingly trusted him, after months of not trusting anyone. Sharing a moment of romance awakened the girl, shaking her world and making her regret her choices. By "I wish you were the one who got away", she means that she wishes that she was never able to develop any romantic relationship with him; she wishes they never met.
The Civil Wars are amazing because they can sound serene, like a whisper of wind that gently sways the prettiest flowers on a summer evening but they can also sound sinister, like the flames in a blazing forest fire that could end humanity as we know it and that's why I love them so much!

This girl = how I pictured Katniss Everdeen.
This song and music video are absolutely beautiful. So much expression.

And I just realized part of this was filmed in Oklahoma when that tornado hit Moore.
I could tell because they showed the damaged strip malls and Warren theater.
My only problem with the video is how open the ending is. Don't get me wrong; I love the song and the video matches it well, but I just really want to know more about this character. The video feels a bit like a movie trailer and I would totally pay to see this movie.

Does it really matter if people found out about The Civil Wars through Ravenswood? No it doesn't. It's good that there are more people appreciating their music, no matter how they found out about them
