This is the greatest music video of all time. Sorry Radiohead.
What is more punk than exploiting loop holes in contracts?
I came here from First we Feast. According to Johnny Knoxville this was almost the theme song for Jackass

The ones who love us best
Are the ones we'll lay to rest
And visit their graves
On holidays at best

The ones who love us least
Are the ones we'll die to please
If it's any consolation
I don't begin to understand them

Truer words have never been spoken

I think I read somewhere that the record label forced them into making videos when they didn't want to do it. So true to nature, this was their finger to the company.
I absolutely love that people are still talking about this.

This version is tuned up and sped up, listen to the real version it's much better
There's too much going on in this video, I can't keep up.

I saw Titus Andronicus the other night and I was drunk and yelled and "PLAY BASTARDS OF YOUNG!" and they did. It was the best night of my life.

Best music video in entire history of music videos.

The replacements and this sort of music makes me nostalgic about the 80s even though I was born in 1997

I could be wrong, but this is the story I heard.  The "Matts" had signed with W.B ... .and somewhere in the contract it said you have too make a music video.  They didn't like that Idea but had too live up to what they signed.  This is what they delivered.  It's my favorite video ever.  Cracks me up every time.  Love the "Matts"...cranking them now...

one of the most underrated alt. bands of all-time; this, in my opinion is their best song!
Read the whole story, I think it's worth it.

This could be one of my earliest memory. I remember my dad was watching this on what was probably MTV. I asked why are they filming a speaker? My mom said something like: "Don't look at that, it's stupidity" (not sure the exact words). I'm sure she said that because she wanted to shelter my young mind from bad influences! Anyways, I was always curious about that speaker and once in a while I would think about this bizarre video, even in my 20's and 30's.

Fast forward to 2015. I was going through some sort of a playlist from an alt rock radio station, copied "The Replacements - Bastards of Young" in the YouTube search bar. I then noticed the speaker in the thumbnail. I didn't think too much of it, but things became familiar when the video started - It was the same thumping speaker as when I was very young! I don't remember the music and the part where the guy kicks the speaker box down, because my mom wouldn't let me see that!

I was born in 1982 and the video probably aired in 1985 or 86, so it is plausible that I saw part of it in that year, this would make this a very early memory. Anyways, it's pretty cool to see a memory confirmation like that. If it wasn't for youtube, I don't think it would have happened. Also, if my mom would have let me watch the whole thing, I'm sure I would have forgotten about it. By preventing me of watching that, she may have started a curiosity that lasted for all theses years.

Now since I remember a genX era video, this should qualify me as one of the last/youngest genXer!

Hope you liked this short story.
'Cuz she's 2000 light years away' - the influence is strong!

Wether you're a longtime fan of The Mats or checking them for the first time and like what you've heard pick up the new bio "Trouble Boys: The True Story of the Replacements" by Bob Mehr.
I love the atmosphere of their music. It makes me nostalgic for a time I wasn't even born in.

This is beautiful but when I first heard this I really thought it was some kick ass Bruce Springsteen song I'd never heard of.
You can rate me down if you please.
I was born in 96 with Springsteen parents, so I ask give me a break.
the replacements - let it be > nirvana - nevermind

This is what happens when the label tells them to make a video.
